The Empress Eugénie Surrounded by her Ladies in Waiting
The original 1855 oil painting depicted Eugenie de Montijo (Empress of France and wife of Napoleon III) and eight ladies. From left to right the ladies are Anne Debelle (Princess of Essling in the red dress), Jane Thorne (Baroness of Pierres in a white dress), Louise Poitelon du Tarde (Viscountess of Lezay-Marnésia in the rose dress), Empress Eugénie (highest lady, in a white dress with blue bow), Pauline van der Linden d'Hooghvorst (Duchess of Bassano in the brown dress), Adrienne de Villeneuve-Bargemont (Countess of Montebello in the green dress), Nathalie de Ségur (Baroness of Malaret in the yellow dress), Claire Emilie MacDonnel (Marquise de Las Marismas de Guadalquivir in a pink dress), and Anne Eve Mortier de Trévise (Marquise of Latour-Maubourg in the dark blue dress).
